CFP National Championship Game Preview:

In the upcoming CFP National Championship, undefeated Michigan (14-0) faces undefeated Washington (14-0) in a historic clash, marking the fifth-ever meeting of 14-0 teams in the playoff’s decade-long history.

This matchup will be the 14th encounter between the Wolverines and Huskies. Michigan holds an 8-5 advantage, winning the last two contests, including a decisive 31-10 victory in 2021. Having never participated in a College Football Playoff Championship Game, Michigan seeks its 12th national title and the first since the 1997 season.

The second-ranked Huskies enter the contest with momentum, aiming for their first national championship since 1991 and the Pac-12’s first since 2004. Washington’s impressive 21-game winning streak is the longest active in the nation and the third-longest in Husky history.

Michigan’s quarterback, J.J. McCarthy, shined last week with three touchdown passes in the Rose Bowl, elevating him to fourth in career passing touchdowns at Michigan with 49.

Meanwhile, Michael Penix Jr. stands out as the first FBS quarterback to achieve back-to-back seasons of 4,500-plus passing yards since Patrick Mahomes. Additionally, Penix’s 77-yard completion to Ja’Lynn Polk in the first quarter of the Sugar Bowl stands as the second-longest pass play in College Football Playoff history, trailing only a record-setting 80-yarder from Jake Fromm to Mecole Hardman in the 2018 title game.
