Somewhere in the NFL, there is a good landing spot for Nick Foles, who on Wednesday was granted the release he requested from the Los Angeles Rams.
Brian Billick is certain of it.
Maybe not as a starter.
However, the former NFL coach and current analyst for NFL Network does see Foles as someone with the ability to add a good deal of security at the quarterback position.
“How about the Denver Broncos?” Billick told Bruce Murray and Vic Carucci on the SiriusXM Blitz Thursday. “You look at a team and you know what Mark Sanchez is about, probably in the same category as a Nick Foles, so you may see some duplication there. But there may be some stability in a Nick Foles and what he might be able to do in that offense.
“I think there are a number of teams around this league that, having him on the team would be a good security blanket, a good backup. And that’s not to say that he still can’t develop possibly in a No. 1 in the right situation.”
Broncos coach Gary Kubiak is on record as saying his team had no plans of signing Foles. Billick understands Kubiak’s concerns of potentially muddying his quarterback situation by adding Foles or any other player at the position at this stage.
He still thinks it would be worth the risk.
“It might muddy it, but, boy, that’d be a good option to have,” Billick said. “I don’t know that you could sleep real comfortably knowing that Mark Sanchez really is your only option. There are some things that he does. You know what Denver’s thinking right now. They looked at the model and they went and let Osweiler go and said, ‘Well, we had 23 interceptions by our quarterbacks last year. If we can play defense at the level we did before and if we can run the ball better, and those are two big ifs, obviously, then all we need to do is not turn the ball over as much as our quarterbacks did last year on the way to a Super Bowl.’
“And that’s a legitimate perspective. I think they’re going to need a little bit more than that. Mark Sanchez may very well be that guy for them, but I would sure like to have as many options as possible to go.”
