By signing with the Miami Dolphins just before the start of training camp practices Wednesday, Alterraun Verner insists he wasn’t as desperate as the timing might have made it seem.

Verner drew interest from “a couple of teams,” but he wasn’t about to accept a deal for the sake of drawing a paycheck.

‘I just didn’t want to get picked up by any team’

“I would say there were other teams, but there was definitely a fit that me and my agent wanted for me,” Verner told Ross Tucker and Erik Coleman on The Opening Drive. “I just didn’t want to get picked up by any team, but I wanted to go to a team that I felt was very strong on competition and I felt they had a strong roster.”

Verner, who spent the past three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after four years with the Tennessee Titans, was especially attracted to the idea of playing behind the Dolphins’ strong pass rush.

‘I know that they do get after the quarterback’

“That’s one thing that definitely made me like this situation, because I’ve been following a lot of those guys for a while and I know that they do get after the quarterback,” said Verner, who has 15 career interceptions. “So it’s exciting for a DB when you have somebody that’s able to do that, and they’re capable of doing that.”
