Earlier today, regular guest Aaron Rodgers stopped by The Pat McAfee Show on Mad Dog Sports Radio (Ch. 82). The quarterback quickly shut down any hope that he would reveal his future plans with the Green Bay Packers. He was too focused on coming out of a 12-day Panchakarma cleanse.
“There will be no news today, no decision on my future,” Rodgers told McAfee, choosing to shed light instead on the #MondayNightGratitude Instagram post he had shared publicly yesterday, which featured special thank-you’s to people like Randall Cobb, Davante Adams, and rumored ex-girlfriend Shailene Woodley. The full episode is available to stream for a limited time on the SXM App now.
In the Instagram caption, Rodgers had written to Woodley, “Thanks for always having my back, for the incredible kindness you show me and everyone you meet, and for showing me what unconditional love looks like, I love you and am grateful for you.” To the Friday Crew (Aiyda Cobb, Randall Cobb, Frankie Shebby, and David Bakhtiari), he wrote, “I loved every moment we got to spend together this year. Your love and support was overwhelming, and I cherish the friendships I have with each of you.” And to his current and former teammates, Rodgers added, “You are the icing on the beautiful cake we call our job.”
Rodgers explained that he posted the multi-image Instagram post because he “was going through some old pictures from the last year.” He said, “I felt an intense amount of gratitude for the life that I have, for the lessons that I’ve learned and the growth that’s happened over the last year and the people that have been a part of that journey.”
The nostalgic element to the post felt a lot like a precursor to a retirement announcement, but Rodgers didn’t elaborate. “It won’t be long. I’m not gonna hold anybody hostage in this. I’m not gonna do that,” he said about his future in the NFL, sounding eerily similar to Tom Brady’s comments ahead of his own retirement. “Obviously, I want to feel certain about it and when I do, I’ll make a decision, and we’ll just move on and move forward.”
