Drew Brees expects Adrian Peterson to have plenty of motivation with the New Orleans Saints this season.

The Saints’ veteran quarterback thinks his new backfield mate is going to be driven to have a big year, his first on a team other than the Minnesota Vikings.

‘I think we’ve got some guys at (running back) that can really do some things’

“I think he’s out to prove something,” Peterson told Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn on the SiriusXM Blitz. “Coming off two years ago, where he was the league’s leading rusher, and last year he missed most of the season with an injury. And I think he’s a great complement to Mark Ingram, who has been a great back for us now for the last six years and I think is one of the best all-purpose backs in the league.

“Whether it’s first or second down behind center or off-set running routes or picking up pass protection, you name it. The combination of those two guys, as well as (Alvin) Kamara, our (third-round) draft pick out of Tennessee, I think we’ve got some guys at that position that can really do some things.”

‘(To) watch his ability to find the hole and then hit that thing, it’s like a freight train’

Brees has long been a fan of Peterson. He can envision him using his tremendous power and explosiveness to full advantage.

“We’ve had some type together at some Pro Bowls and, obviously, the first time you see the guy you’re like, ‘Wow! This guy plays running back,'” Brees said. “He’s a big, physical presence and, obviously, have admired him from afar for a long time and then to have him on your team now and to sit there and hand the ball off to him and watch his ability to find the hole and then hit that thing, it’s like a freight train.

‘He is so explosive and I think he just runs angry, like he’s got a chip on his shoulder at all times’

“Very few guys, every time they touch the ball, can you say it could go the distance, but he’s one of those guys. He’s such a hard guy to tackle. He is so explosive and I think he just runs angry, like he’s got a chip on his shoulder at all times. So he’s obviously a rare talent and he’s done it at a high level for a long time.”
