Karlos Dansby calls his time away from football this offseason a “blessing,” because it has given the free-agent linebacker plenty of time to do what he loves best.

One is spending more time with his children.

‘Last year, I got tested like seven, eight times for steroids’

Otherwise, Dansby, who last season had his third career stint with the Arizona Cardinals, has been making sure his 36-year-old body will be in top condition whenever he gets the call to sign with a team.

“I’ve been doing a lot, I’ve been doing a whole lot,” Dansby told Alex Marvez and Brad Hopkins on NFL Rewind. “It’s been a blessing. I’m spending more time with the kids, that’s first and foremost. Then, after that, it’s just giving me more time to work on my body. Last year, I got tested like seven, eight times for steroids. When I come back, they’re going to be testing me again, man, seven, eight more times, because now I’ve got more time to work on my body. So they might as well get ready.”

‘You’ve got to be able to share what you know’

Of the many reasons Dansby, who is one of only five players in NFL history to have 40 sacks and 20 interceptions in his career, would like to return for a 15th NFL season, high on the list is the ability to share his knowledge and experience with younger teammates.

“I love that aspect of the game, because you’ve got to be able to share what you know,” he said. Now, now it’s my turn to pass the torch, give this wisdom I’ve been able to obtain to keep the essence of the game intact.”
