While you were sleeping: Rockets beat Warriors, Jake Arrieta’s no-hitter, Blackhawks avoid elimination

Good morning! A lot happens in sports, even when you’re busy doing other non-sports-y stuff. So here are the top headlines and moments from yesterday, in case you missed anything while you were mourning Prince’s passing.

NBA Playoffs: Rockets down Warriors

We actually got some excitement from Thursday’s playoffs as the Steph Curry-less Warriors fell to the Rockets, 97-96, on the road. Golden State struggled the entire game before storming back to take a late lead, but James Harden was able to knock down this go-ahead jumper:

Harden led the way with 35 points, nine assists and eight rebounds, looking like a “Little Red Corvette.” But this doesn’t mean much as Curry is likely to return from an ankle injury in the next game and the Warriors still have a 2-1 series lead. Even the Rockets know it doesn’t mean anything, as they didn’t even “Party Like It’s 1999” after Harden’s game-winner:

The ‘Dubs had an opportunity to for a last-second shot saying to each other, “Let’s Go Crazy,” but Draymond Green dribbled the ball off his foot:

In the other playoff games, the Thunder beat the Mavericks, 131-102, and the Raptors beat the Pacers, 101-85, to take a 2-1 lead in their respective series.

Arreita’s no-no

The pitcher formerly known as Jake Arrieta showed why he’s the best pitcher in the MLB, throwing his second-career no-hitter to help lead the Cubs to a 16-0 win over the Reds. Arrieta, using “The Arms of Orion,” had six strikeouts while earning his fourth win and lowering his ERA to 0.87. The reigning NL Cy Young-winner is now 15-0 with a 0.65 ERA in his past 17 starts. NHL Playoffs: Blackhawks win in double-OT

The defending Stanley Cup Champion Blackhawks staved off elimination with a 4-3 double-overtime win over the Blues. Patrick Kane put in the game-winning goal as Chicago was able to stay alive, possibly signifying a “Sign o’ the Times” as the series momentum may have shifted:

In the other series, Anaheim beat Nashville 4-1 to tie their series at two games apiece, while the Penguins beat the Rangers 5-0 to take a 3-1 lead. The Lightning eliminated the Red Wings with a 1-0 win to close out the series, 4-1. Detroit knows what it sounds like “When Doves Cry.”
