If SiriusXM Hits 1 could claim to be a vital part of a musician’s success story, it would be folk-pop duo Oh Honey’s. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, the sugary-sweet twosome — aka Mitchy Collins and Danielle Bouchard — began receiving airplay on Hits 1 early this year (AND recently hosted Hit-Bound), which channel programmer Kid Kelly believes has sent their relatively young career skyrocketing — all the way to a deal with Atlantic Records.

After all, it’s not every day that Hits 1 — home to the Katy Perrys and the Miley Cyrus’ of the world — adds a song by an unsigned artist. Which begs the question: Why did Hits 1 decide to add an unknown group, anyway? What was it about Oh Honey that piqued their interest?

“At one point we were looking for the perfect rock record, and we couldn’t find it from the established artists,” says Kelly. “So we popped [Oh Honey’s record] in the player and said, let’s go for it. We shouldn’t be biased toward a band or a song simply because they don’t have a major label behind them. And [Oh Honey] sound just as good as any other major label artist.”

“The duo is very good,” continues Kelly. “Their talent got them signed. But if it wasn’t for us putting them on Hits 1, would they a have been signed at a later date? I guess it’s likely. But getting signed so quickly in their career? That’s 10,000 percent Hits 1.”

To show their appreciation, Oh Honey recently stopped by SiriusXM to perform a live rendition of their radio hit, Be Okay. Check it out below!
