Tyrese Gibson is calling for Chris Rock to step down as this year’s Oscars host following the controversy surrounding the lack of diversity among nominees.

Speaking to Sway Calloway on Shade 45, he said that although he understands Rock needs to feed his family, considers the comedian a genius and has no beef with him, he thinks that more people need to start taking a stand, starting with Rock.

Spike Lee, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith are among the celebrities who have already spoken out and boycotted the awards show. However, if Rock decides not to step down, Tyrese has a message for him:

“If you decide to move forward, good luck,” he said. “I don’t think there’s no jokes, there’s no approach that you can have with going about hosting the Oscars — with the blatant racism and discrimination that’s happening in that organization — that can make anything better.”
