The Wiz Town Hall: Bevy Smith and fans talk to the cast + executive producer

We are less than a month away from the premiere of NBC’s live adaptation of the beloved Oz-inspired musical, The Wiz, directed by Kenny Leon. Ahead of the live event, cast members Shanice Williams (Dorothy), Elijah Kelley (Scarecrow), Ne-Yo (Tin Man), Stephanie Mills (Auntie Em), and Executive Producer Neil Meron came through the SiriusXM studios to talk about the show, sing for our live studio audience and more in an exclusive Town Hall event, hosted by Radio Andy’s very own Bevy Smith.

During the interview, Stephanie Mills — who portrayed Dorothy when the musical launched in 1975 — revealed (to her castmate’s and Bevy’s surprise) that she was dating Michael Jackson, who played the Scarecrow in the original film.

Elsewhere Bevy was able to persuade the castmembers to sing (either their own songs or covers). Hear Shanice Williams sing Adele’s Someone Like You, Ne-Yo sing Lazy Love, Stephanie Mills sing Never Knew Love Like This Before, and Elijah Kelley sing Happy Birthday to Neil Meron in the style of Stevie Wonder.

Stay tuned for The Wiz Town Hall, which will air on Radio Andy (Ch. 102) this month. And don’t miss the live airing of The Wiz Live! on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 8/7c on NBC.
