Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul have embarked on a landmark live tour to benefit TeachRock, the Rock and Roll Forever Foundation’s national initiative to bring music curriculum into schools across the country.

The first tour of its kind, each stop will feature professional development workshops for teachers. Local educators who sign up for the sessions will receive a complimentary ticket to that evening’s show.

Steven Van Zandt, the channel boss of SiriusXM’s Underground Garage (Ch. 21) and Outlaw Country (Ch. 60), stopped by SiriusXM for a Town Hall on VOLUME (Ch. 106), where he spoke with host Dave Marsh about what led to the initiative and why he believes it is so important for children to have music education as part of their curriculum.

Elsewhere in the interview, he spoke about the advice he gives younger musicians who want to go solo after being in a successful band as well as the endurance it takes to play multiple four-hour shows in a row in the E Street Band with Bruce Springsteen.

Discussions then extended beyond music, as Van Zandt spoke about the difference between acting on The Sopranos versus acting on the Norwegian-American TV show Lilyhammer.
