Because tequila is best enjoyed with a sweet soundtrack, Radio Margaritaville selected a special song to accompany each tequila cocktail.

It’s that time of year again: National Tequila Day! Maybe we don’t need a special day to enjoy one of our favorite Mexican imports, but we’re not going to pass up the opportunity. And who knows tequila better than our friends at Margaritaville (Ch. 24)? They’ve compiled a list of fabulous, tequila-inspired cocktails just in time for July 24.

Because tequila is best enjoyed with a sweet soundtrack, Radio Margaritaville selected a special song to accompany each cocktail. We’ll take your “1 tequila, 2 tequila” count all the way to 7 (songs, not shots!) with our Tequila Day playlist. ¡Salud!

For The Paloma, we recommend: One More Song About Mexico by El Camino

The Paloma is a mixture of grapefruit juice, lime juice, and club soda create a fresh, vibrant flavor; likewise, this song leaves the listener with a fresh vibe. A perfect match!

For The Matador, we recommend: The Tiki Bar Is Open by John Hiatt

The Matador keeps it simple with only three ingredients. This song keeps it simple with just one message: Thank god the tiki bar is open.

For the Tequila Sunrise, we recommend: Tequila Sunrise by The Eagles

Sure, this sip-sound pairing may seem straightforward, but why complicate things when you’re in paradise?

For the Bloody Maria, we recommend: Tequila by The Champs

…because without tequila, a Bloody Maria would be a boring Bloody Mary. Swap that vodka for tequila to inject some real flavor into your brunch (or anytime) drink.

For the Peligroso Sangre, we recommend: It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere by Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett

You might need a little reassurance when you’re drinking a “Dangerous Blood” cocktail that mixes cinnamon tequila, red wine, and other flavors. Don’t worry, it’s Five O’Clock Somewhere!

For the Black Diamond, we recommend: Sweat (A La La Long) by Inner Circle

This drink includes blended tequila (“a rule-defying blend of Extra-Añejo, Añejo and Reposado Tequila”) and a black salt rim, a combination smooth and catchy. This smooth and catchy reggae jam is the perfect complement.

For the Perfect Margarita, we recommend: Boat Drinks by Jimmy Buffett

When you’re drinking the Perfect Margarita, created by Jimmy Buffett himself, you gotta listen to this Jimmy Buffett classic at the same time. If you find yourself moving from the air-conditioned indoors to a sunny spot outside, even better.
