Seahawks’ Tyler Lockett says staying ‘poised’ key to outlasting Packers

So far, the Seahawks haven’t been consistent in finishing the job when they’ve had a chance for victory. But they did just that in their 27-24 victory vs. the Packers that put them in solid position for a playoff run.

The Seattle Seahawks are no strangers to close, back-and-forth games like the one they played Thursday night against the Green Bay Packers.

Where they haven’t been consistent is in finishing the job when they’ve had a chance for victory.

‘We didn’t start off as well as we wanted to, but we didn’t panic’

But the Seahawks did just that in their 27-24 victory that put them at 5-5 and in solid position for a playoff run.

“I think the biggest thing is we just had to learn how to finish and put ourselves in a position to be able to win,” Lockett told Alex Marvez on Late Hits. “We didn’t start off as well as we wanted to (falling behind, 14-3, late in the first quarter), but we didn’t panic. We just stayed poised, went out there and played our game and we were able to finish.”

‘We always talk about being able to convert on third down’

Lockett, who finished with five receptions for 71 yards, made two of the bigger plays of the game on the Seahawks’ winning touchdown drive. First, he caught an 18-yard pass on third-and-three. Then, he made a 34-yard reception that put the Seahawks at the Packers’ 16. Two plays later, Russell Wilson connected with tight end Ed Dickson for what would prove to be the decisive points, after the Packers punted the ball away with 4:11 left in the Seahawks killed the remaining time.

“We always talk about being able to convert on third down, and we didn’t really do a good job on that the last couple of weeks,” Lockett said. “And we really emphasized it as we were getting ready for this game. We knew that they were going to throw a lot of difficult things at us (defensively), and we try to do the best that we could be ready for it. (Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer) called a play, and we were looking for the outside to be able to do something and Russ kind of waited for me to get across the field and threw a perfect pass for me to catch it.

‘He threw it to me and I just tried to do the best that I could to be able to make that catch’

“Then, we called another play where he could have thrown it to either me or Doug (Baldwin), and both of us did our jobs that we were supposed to do, but based off of how the defense played it, he threw it to me and I just tried to do the best that I could to be able to make that catch.”
