Radio Classics presents a unique opportunity for SiriusXM listeners to absorb and appreciate the sounds and moments from some of Alfred Hitchcock’s most iconic moments, including from his Best Picture-winning “Rebecca.”

This Saturday night Radio Classics will be airing two hours of Lux Radio Theater’s best Hitchcock moments, with excerpts from its performances of Hitch classics such as: “Strangers On A Train,” The Lodger” and “Rebecca.” For listeners it’s a rare treat to embrace two legends from the golden age of radio. Not only are we treated to the aural delight of some of Hitchcock’s best dialogues and scenes, we are also privy to the utter sensation that is recordings from the glorious Lux Radio Theater program which ran on CBS and NBC’s radio waves through the 1930s and 40s. The show was a staple of the air for over two decades and routinely would feature the original cast members from the films and Broadway plays reading their lines for listeners across the nation. Cecil B. DeMille famously hosted the program for nine years and such stars of the silver screen as Clark Gable, Marlene Dietrich and Jack Benny all made appearances on the show as well.

Here’s the Saturday evening schedule. Expect thrills, chills and short excerpt from three of Hitchcock’s finest films.

  • 8:00-9:00, “Strangers On a Train” Based on the Patricia Highsmith crime novel of the same title, this noir masterpiece from Hitchcock explores the random encounter of two strangers on a train, both wanting to get rid of someone by any means necessary, and tension mounts throughout as Guy Haines struggles to comes to terms with the ramifications of the bargain he strikes with the mysterious Bruno.
  • 9:00-9:30, “The Lodger” Inspired by the gruesome stories of Jack the Ripper, The Lodger explores the story of Slade, a tenant in a family of Londoners, who has taken a sinister shine to the family’s other lodger, the lovely Kitty Langley, a cabaret singer.
  • 9:30-10:00, “Rebecca” An early psychological thriller that would portend the ever-growing darkness and plot twists of his later work, this film explores the psychological impact of the titular Rebecca, a dead wife, on her widower husband, Maxim de Winter, and his new (and very naive) love interest.
