Many say they grew up with David Bowie’s music, but very few can say they actually grew up with Bowie himself. British rock star Peter Frampton is one of those few.

From his work with Humble Pie and The Herd to his international breakthrough as a solo artist with Frampton Comes Alive! (one of the best-selling live albums to date), the Grammy-winning, multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter has had a storied career in rock and roll. But before all that, Frampton went to Bromley Technical High School with Bowie in the ’60s, and his father also taught at the school as head of the art department.

Frampton spoke with SiriusXM VOLUME (Ch. 106) Debatable hosts Mark Goodman and Alan Light about becoming friends with Bowie at school — they even jammed to Buddy Holly songs in the stairwell together — and his father’s reaction to Bowie’s Hunky Dory cover art.
