Ole Miss WR D.K. Metcalf: ‘Nobody’s going to play harder than me’

Ole Miss wide receiver D.K. Metcalf was asked to play the part of seller during an appearance on the Red Zone Tuesday with Bill Lekas and Ed McCaffrey.

His product: The skills he’ll bring to the NFL team that drafts him.

‘I’m going to come in, Day One, and work’

“The total package, a complete wide receiver who can catch the ball, run routes and block,” Metcalf said. “Nobody’s going to play harder than me. I’m going to come in, Day One, and work. And I just want to win.”

“I’m just taking it all in, just being able to travel the U.S., and just see many different cities and meet with different teams.”

Metcalf admitted that some anxiety is setting in as Thursday’s NFL Draft approaches.

‘This experience has been great’

“A little nervousness right now, because I don’t know where I’m going to be before Thursday,” he said. “But this experience has been great. I’m just taking it all in, just being able to travel the U.S., and just see many different cities and meet with different teams.”

Of course, Metcalf wants to be a first-round pick, although projections of where he will be selected vary. “It would mean a lot, just to my family and then the university came from,” he said. “But I know it’s all God’s work, and just waiting for him to put me in a new city and I’m just waiting to play football again.”

‘You’re not alone in the process’

Metcalf and fellow Ole Miss receiver A.J. Brown, who also is a highly regarded prospect, have been training together, along with other top receiving prospects. The buddy system approach, Metcalf said, has had plenty of benefits.

“You’re not alone and in the process, knowing that you have somebody who’s been going through it since high school with you,” Metcalf said. “(We’ve) talked about a lot of things from freshman year, getting to this point. And now, we’re at this point and how we can’t slow down. We’ve just got to keep working. And just having somebody to just bounce ideas off of, because we’re both going through the same thing.”
