SiriusXM College Sports Nation’s third annual college football camp tour continued on Wednesday, Aug. 13th, as Mark Packer and Dan Hawkins visited the University of Missouri and the Mizzou Tigers.

Mizzou Tigers season preview

The reigning SEC East Champion Tigers hope to prove that last year’s surprise performance wasn’t a flash in the pan. Markus Golden is anchoring the defense, and quarterback Maty Mauk is now permanently at the helm. Dan Hawkins thinks Mauk’s successful starts as a freshman in place of injured James Franklin gave him valuable experience.

“We know the intensity of this league, from the travel, to the crowd, to the exposure, to the scrutiny.” Hawkins said. “He’s gone through that. You cannot put money on that. That is a big, big factor for Missouri as they continue to try to get back, not just into the championship game, but capture the SEC crown.”

A big challenge this season for the Tigers is a tough slate of in-conference road games at South Carolina, Florida and Texas A&M. Dan Hawkins thinks that while it’s not easy to win whether at home or on the road, it will be a true test for this team. Overall, he thinks Mizzou is growing nicely heading into their third year in the SEC.

“Been spending a lot of money here. $250 million dollars worth of improvements.” said Hawkins. “We’re looking at a brand-new stadium on the other side. Great facilities. Continue to upgrade. We’ve see the personnel that they have. They’re fitting in nicely. A lot of people doubted them coming into this league; I don’t think they’re doubting them anymore.”
