Mike Huckabee tries to clarify Jay Z-Beyonce ‘pimp’ comment from book

There are 272 pages in Mike Huckabee’s new book, God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy, but there’s one passage everyone wants to talk about.

“Beyonce is incredibly talented – gifted, in fact. She has an exceptional set of pipes and can actually sing. She is a terrific dancer – without the explicit moves best left for the privacy of her bedroom. Jay Z is a very shrewd businessman, but I wonder: Does it occur to him that he is arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object?” Huckabee wrote.

Michael Smerconish spoke with the former governor (and likely 2016 presidential candidate) about his issues with America’s royal couple.

“People are missing the point. As I clearly stated, these are talented people. They’re so talented. They don’t have to cross that line into vulgarity,” Huckabee said. “And I feel like that our culture has become not just tolerant but it’s almost like we celebrate the most vulgar, the crudest levels of entertainment as if somehow we honor that.”

Huckabee also weighed in on Miley Cyrus’ 2013 VMA performance. “I’m the prude? You remember the look on other celebrities’ faces? Taylor Swift and others … if I’m a prude, then so are most of the people in the entertainment business.”

And for the record, Huckabee says he does have Beyonce songs on his iPhone — just not Partition or Drunk In Love.
