For an hour on a recent Thursday at the SiriusXM Studios, it was like Mike and the Mad Dog never left the airwaves.

In an hour-long interview hosted by acclaimed actor Chazz Palminteri, Mike Francesa and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo opened up about their first show (it didn’t go well), how they became some of the most prominent voices in New York sports, and their eventual splitting up.

Just how powerful were they? Francesa explains below how they helped Mike Piazza become a Met instead of a Cub in one show.

The duo was in top-form as they reminisced about how they got to that point, which wasn’t smooth sailing. More about that first show in their “30 for 30” documentary premiering on ESPN on July 13.

Luckily for us, the pair found their footing and quickly became powerhouses in sports talk media. And, thanks to Francesa’s wife, Rose, Mike and the Mad Dog didn’t end in 2000. We’ll let him tell the story in the way only he can.

Listen to the special throughout the weekend on SiriusXM Mad Dog Sports Radio (Ch. 82.)
