Michael Irvin on Dez Bryant remaining a free agent: ‘I am surprised it’s gone on this long’

Michael Irvin doesn’t get it. The Hall of Famer still sees considerable talent in fellow former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant. He still sees someone who can make a significant impact on an offense.

‘Dez can still play football and, I think, play at a high level’

Irvin simply can’t understand why no club has signed Bryant, an eight-year veteran who has been a free agent since the Cowboys released him on April 13, as mandatory minicamps throughout the NFL come to an end.

“Dez can still play football and, I think, play at a high level,” Irvin told Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt on Late Hits. “Dez certainly is in an offense in Dallas that asks him to do certain things and we get used to seeing him do (those) certain things. But you put Dez with the right kind of people that can really use his talent, you get him around the right team with the right offensive coordinator with the right mindset that can really use his talent, he can very effective.

‘I know Dez wants a one-year deal and be able to prove himself next year’

“But I don’t know where that will be. I’m surprised that more people haven’t been trying to get Dez on their football team. And I know Dez wants a one-year deal and be able to prove himself next year, but I am surprised it’s gone on this long.”
