As the new coach of the Miami Dolphins, Brian Flores is pleased to have an experienced hand at quarterback in Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Flores sees Fitzpatrick as a great fit for the Dolphins for multiple reasons.

‘I’m looking forward to watching him play’

“He’s brings leadership, he brings intelligence, he brings toughness,” Flores told Alex Marvez and John Clayton on Late Hits at this week’s NFL meeting in Phoenix. “We’ve had a couple really good talks. Obviously, I coached against him (when Flores was a defensive assistant with the New England Patriots) and I just think he’s a really good player.

“What do they do well? What do they not do well? How much can they retain?”

“I’m looking forward to watching him play. I think his best days are ahead.”

‘Every day’s an evaluation’

Flores also is looking forward to getting his team together for the beginning of its offseason workout program on April 1.

“What we can get done is get to know the players, get to know their strengths, their weaknesses,” he said. “Every day’s an evaluation. What do they do well? What do they not do well? How much can they retain?

‘Conditioning is obviously a big part of the game as well’

“As well as just train for football. Train and get in condition. Conditioning is obviously a big part of the game as well. So I think we can get a lot done and we’re excited to get them in April 1st.”
