Martin Truex Jr. has driven his way into the Round of 12 after winning the first race of the Chase at Chicagoland Speedway, but before he accomplished that first in his career he stopped by to chat with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio to talk about the season and his preparations for the postseason.

As you might imagine, the ultimate goal for Truex Jr. is to win the Sprint Cup.

“It’s had the potential to be an extraordinary season, it still does,” the driver of the No. 78 told SiriusXM NASCAR host Pete Pistone. “Obviously, a championship would fix everything. We had a lot of tough luck along the way, had a lot of really good race cars, had a lot of awesome races, and had a lot of fun along the way.”

Next up on the docket is the Bad Boy Off Road 300 at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 25. Find out where to catch all the action on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, starting at 2 p.m. ET by clicking here.

With the win, Truex Jr. is one step closer to realizing that longtime dream. Shortly after winning at Chicagoland Speedway, the No. 78 driver told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio that he and his crew worked tirelessly all week heading into the race and tried some “new things” that helped propel him to a win.

“We weren’t the fastest car all weekend but I told them, I said ‘it’s got the feel I think I need’ and we continued down that path and, man, in the long run the thing was just lights out,” Truex Jr. said. “This team is on fire right now, they’re doing an amazing job.”
