Marilyn Manson is prepping the release of his upcoming 10th album, Heaven Upside Down, due out Oct. 6. While in New York in support of the record, he stopped by Octane (Ch. 37) to chat with host Grant Random, who premiered his new single Kill4Me.

During the interview, they discussed the writing process for the album and his time acting on Sons of Anarchy, among other topics. When Grant asked Manson about the music he listens to, he handed him his phone to scroll through a playlist of artists. There was one artist, Grant joked, that wasn’t featured: Justin Bieber.

The connection between the pop star and shock rocker may seem odd, but the two have been at the center of an unexpected media frenzy this month.

Justin Bieber frequently wore a Marilyn Manson shirt on stage during his latest tour. When Manson bumped into him at a bar and mentioned it, Bieber cracked, “I made you relevant again.” Manson found that comment to be arrogant and called him out in the media.

While still in possession of Manson’s phone, Grant read aloud the Bieber/Manson text exchange on air. Check it out in all its glory below, and listen to the full interview On Demand.

Listen to Octane with Grant Random weekdays from 6 am to 12 pm ET on channel 37!
