Lane Johnson: Eagles came into the season ‘well-prepared’ to handle quarterback change

It was the last thing Lane Johnson, his teammates, coaches or anyone else with a rooting interest in the Philadelphia Eagles ever wanted to see. But Johnson is convinced they can rebound from Carson Wentz’s season-ending knee injury.

It was the last thing Lane Johnson, his teammates, coaches or anyone else with a rooting interest in the Philadelphia Eagles ever wanted to see.

Carson Wentz’s devastating knee injury not only brought a premature end to what was shaping up as an MVP season, it also raised doubts about how far the Eagles can go despite having the NFC’s best record at 11-2.

‘The guy works his tail off and has just been having a crazy, awesome year’

“It’s tough,” offensive tackle Lane Johnson told Vic Carucci and Bill Polian on Late Hits. “Carson Wentz was having an unbelievable year. The guy works his tail off and has just been having a crazy, awesome year. It sucks, the situation he’s in, but he’ll come back stronger, just the guy he is.”

And Johnson made it clear the Eagles will rebound with Nick Foles as their quarterback the rest of the way.

‘Nick’s able to make big-time plays with his arm and, deceptively, with his legs, too’

“I’ve played with Nick before,” Johnson said. “I know what he’s capable of, just the way he prepared all year. I think we came into the season more prepared than a lot of people. Nick’s obviously been in the Pro Bowl before. He’s able to make big-time plays with his arm and, deceptively, with his legs, too.

“As far as confidence, we have the utmost confidence in him moving forward. … I’ve seen him make some unbelievable throws. … I just think we came in well-prepared. … Even coming in the season, we knew, not to say if anything happened to Carson, but if we get a situation like this, we’re very prepared and I think it’s just heads-up from the front office, guys making things happen.

‘We’re crazy excited about it’

“The way Nick prepares, he’s been in this situation, he knows how to handle it. And we’re crazy excited about it.”
