Kurt Warner: ‘No question’ Anquan Boldin should be in Hall of Fame

He completed enough of them for enough yards and touchdowns — while also winning a Super Bowl and receiving NFL and Super Bowl MVP honors — to have his bronze bust in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

‘There’s no doubt in my mind, when you just look at the numbers, the longevity, the way he started his career with, I think a 220-yard game’

Warner expects to be joined by those pass-catchers in Canton. And that includes one who most recently announced his retirement: Anquan Boldin, Warner’s former teammate on the Arizona Cardinals.

“There’s no question that he should (be inducted into the Hall),” Warner told Zig Fracassi and Brady Quinn on the SiriusXM Blitz. “I look at all the great players that I played with, especially at the receivers with Ike (Isaac Bruce) and Torry (Holt) and Fitz (Larry Fitzgerald) and Anquan. A lot of times you look at maybe the physical gifts and say, ‘Well, he wasn’t as talented and he didn’t blow people away like some guys might have physically.’ But he was every bit as good as those other three guys. So there’s no doubt in my mind, when you just look at the numbers, the longevity, the way he started his career with, I think a 220-yard game and the fact that he leaves, at the end of his career, having led a number of teams in receiving yards and catches as he’s moved to different places.”

‘Anquan was just one of the greatest competitors I have ever been around’

Warner appreciated Boldin’s production. What he admired the most about him was his competitiveness.

“Anquan was just one of the greatest competitors I have ever been around,” Warner said. “It was so much fun working with him, he was a pro, understood how to play the game. I think what I loved so much about guys like Anquan is I just watched people, every year, try to replace the guy. ‘Oh, he’s not fast enough, we can find somebody that does things better.’ And everywhere he went, when a team would pass on him or let him move on, he would go and be the leading receiver on that next team. And it just spoke to the pro that he was and the fact that he didn’t let any of that garbage bother him and he just went out and played football.

‘He was that kind of competitor that wanted the ball at those moments and just wasn’t going to be denied’

“Of all the great players that I played with, he’s right up there at the top of guys that I want the ball in their hands when the game is on the line. He was that kind of competitor that wanted the ball at those moments and just wasn’t going to be denied. And he was just such a physical presence, really set the tone physically for our team when he was here in Arizona’.”
