Two days before the highly anticipated release of his theatrical stand-up comedy film What Now?, Kevin Hart stopped by Caroline’s Comedy Club in New York City for an intimate Town Hall hosted by Kenan Thompson, discussing his career, how he handles fame, the Black Lives Matter movement and much more.

The actor, comedian, producer and the industry’s leading funnyman has seen a ton of success over the last five years, starring in comedies such as Ride Along, Get Hard and Central Intelligence. His recent stand-up comedy tours Laugh At My Pain and Let Me Explain have seen widespread acclaim. What Now? was filmed during a tour stop at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field in front of 53,000 fans. Despite all the accolades, Hart told Saturday Night Live’s Thompson how he remains grounded by remaining the same “people person” he’s always been.

“It’s not like your life changes because of the level of success that you have,” he said. “At the end of the day people are people. If you come up to take a picture of me and I’m with my kids, I’m gonna politely tell you, ‘Hey man, I appreciate your support, but I’m on daddy time right now.’ As a person you should understand that.”

Hart also touched on using his platform to speak out against social injustices, saying it’s up to celebrities like him to “raise the attention to the problem.”

“What the real problem is — it’s not the anger that lies within the African American community — it’s the anger about not getting the correct responses,” he said. “It’s the anger in not seeing people say, ‘Okay guys not only is this wrong, but what is the solution to help make it right?'”

Hart has had the privilege of starring alongside actors like Robert De Niro, Sylvester Stallone, Chris Rock, Dwayne Johnson and many more. Answering a fan question, he noted which of his co-stars has the tightest wallet.

“Will Ferrell is as frugal as they come,” Hart said with a laugh. “Will Ferrell, to this day, has the first Blackberry. Will Ferrell has spent more money getting his Blackberry fixed than getting a new phone.”
