The air is rare within the cozy confines of the Cash Cabin recording studios in Hendersonville, Tenn., where a small group of lucky SiriusXM subscribers was recently treated to a once in a lifetime afternoon.

Celebrating the new album Johnny Cash: Forever Words — a multi-artist project featuring new recordings of songs set to lyrics, letters and poetry left behind by the Man in Black — the exclusive radio session was hosted by SiriusXM’s Elizabeth Cook along with John Carter Cash, album producer, studio owner and the only son of Johnny Cash and June Carter.

Prior to the album’s release on Legacy Recordings, audience members got to preview select tracks — including one of the final recordings from the late Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, and contributions from Ruston Kelly and Kacey Musgraves, Alison Krauss & Union Station, John Mellencamp, and family members Rosanne Cash and Carlene Carter — as well as enjoy intimate performances from Jamey Johnson and bluegrass duo Dailey & Vincent, who teamed up for a hootenanny-style singalong of the Cash staple Daddy Sang Bass to close out the show.
