Joe Torre ‘had no confidence’ growing up in abusive home

It’s hard to imagine somebody as talented and charismatic as former Yankees’ manager Joe Torre lacking confidence, but for a long time in his life, that was the case.

Torre opened up about his self-esteem issues during his SiriusXM Town Hall, and told listeners how it all stems from growing up in an abusive home.

“When I grew up as a kid, I was very insecure, I had no confidence in myself, I was very nervous and I thought basically this was they I was born,” Torre said. “These feelings I was having that were always haunting me, so to speak, were caused by the fear my dad brought into that house by what he was doing to my mom.”

Torre now works to help kids with similar issues through his Safe At Home foundation.
