Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Louis Murphy‘s interview with SiriusXM NFL Radio started off pretty normal, as he offered an expected scouting report on his new rookie quarterback, Jameis Winston.

“He’s hitting the ground running,” Murphy said. “He’s picked up all the calls. First three OTA practices were really good. He’s a leader.”

Then, though, without prompt, Murphy made an unexpected NFL comparison for Jameis Winston: Former Denver Broncos quarterback and current Philadelphia Eagles back-up Tim Tebow.

“I saw how much of a competitor [Winston] is” in practice, Murphy said. “And I wanna play with a competitor. He competes, he really dislikes losing, and that’s the type of player I wanna play with. Similar to Tim Tebow.”

Murphy elaborated:

“Tebow was the same way. Always wants to win. Just wanna do anything it takes to win.”

Murphy added that he didn’t have any concerns about the Bucs’ decision to draft Winston following his rocky final season at Florida State.

“He’s young. Everybody makes mistakes. Everybody’s entitled to a second chance,” Murphy said. “When adversity’s in your face, and to still be able to put your all out there and be good – that says a lot.”
