Every month, Lithium (Ch. 34) airs in-studio performances from ’90s alternative and grunge artists. The latest Lithium Live episode spotlights Art Alexakis, frontman of Everclear. He’ll play stripped down versions of the band’s classics, a Van Morrison cover and more. Plus, he’ll share stories about what inspires his music.

Alexakis starts off the session talking about his 1997 hit I Will Buy You A New Life:

“That’s part of what being an American is about. It’s about dreaming about a better life,” Alexakis explains. “And a couple of years later, after the success of Everclear, and Santa Monica, and Sparkling Fade, I wrote this song about living up in West Hills because I bought a house up in the West Hills. A really big house. And I learned something very valuable that’s helped me through life — that it’s a totally different thing being on the outside looking in than being on the inside, looking out.”

Hear Lithium Live: Art Alexakis on Lithium (Ch. 34) Friday 3/23 at 12pm ET; Saturday 3/24 at 9pm ET; and Sunday 3/25 at 3pm ET or LISTEN ON DEMAND through the SiriusXM app on smartphones and other connected devices, as well as online at siriusxm.com.
