On August 16, Aretha Franklin, universally recognized as the “Queen of Soul,” died after a long battle with cancer. She was 76. In honor of her contribution to popular music, SiriusXM transformed Soul Town (Ch. 49) into The Aretha Franklin Tribute Channel, featuring music from her iconic career as well as archival interviews and tributes from fans and friends. Her Celebration of Life service will also air on the channel LIVE from Detroit in it’s entirety on Friday, August 31, starting at 10 am ET.

The service will feature performances by many of the biggest stars in music, including Stevie Wonder, Ariana Grande, Faith Hill, Ronald Isley, Chaka Khan, Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, Yolanda Adams, Shirley Caesar, the Clark Sisters and Jennifer Holliday. The service will also feature Tasha Cobbs-Leonard, Marvin Sapp, the Williams Brothers, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Audrey DuBois Harris, Alice McAllister Tillman, Edward Franklin, Aretha Franklin Orchestra and the Aretha Franklin Celebration Choir.

After the service, The Aretha Franklin Tribute Channel will take calls from listeners who want to pay their final respects until 6 pm ET.

The channel will return to its regular Soul Town programming on Saturday, September 1.
