The National Weather Service expects Hermine to hammer the East Coast in the coming days with hurricane-force winds, heavy rain and storm surges along the coast from Virginia to New Jersey.
As the post-tropical cyclone moves up the coast it’s forecast to bring hurricane-force winds, potentially reaching up to 110 mph. Currently, tropical storm watches and warnings are in effect as the storm’s center will remain offshore in the Atlantic Ocean for the next few days.
Hermine is expected to dump 4 to 7 inches over southeastern Virginia and Maryland through Monday morning. One to four inches of rain are predicted for Delaware, New Jersey and New York through Monday.
Large waves are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions, and significant beach erosion.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie issued a state of emergency for several coastal counties, while New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the closure of beaches due to strong rip tides.
