Music tributes, remembrances honor George Michael after singer dies at age 53

Remember the icon through his music on 80s on 8, 90s on 9, The Blend (Ch. 16) and through commentary on VOLUME (Ch. 106).

In the wake of British pop star George Michael’s death, the outpouring of remembrances and tributes continue.

The 53-year-old singer-songwriter died at his home Sunday. His cause and manner of death are pending the results of an autopsy.

Michael, born Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, rose to fame as a member of Wham! with hits like Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Club Tropicana and Last Christmas and went on to have a successful solo career with hits including Faith, Father Figure, Careless Whisper and I Want Your Sex.

VOLUME’s daily show Debatable (Ch. 106) will air a live George Michael tribute show at 4 pm. Tuesday (Dec. 27) hosted by Mark Goodman with special guests including his former publicist Michael Pagnotta, former MTV news correspondent John Norris and Us Weekly’s Ian Drew.

Goodman, who’s also a host on 80s on 8, honors his life with a music tribute on that channel, featuring songs from his days with Wham! and his solo artist collaborations with musical greats such as Elton John and Whitney Houston. The special airs  4 pm Tuesday (Dec. 27.)
