The coaching seat in Washington wasn’t vacant long.

Ten days after Redskins owner Dan Snyder closed the door on the Mike Shanahan era, the window opened for Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden, who was tapped to become the next Redskins coach; the team’s eighth since Snyder bought the club in 1999.

Gruden, brother of former NFL head coach and current ESPN analyst Jon Gruden, was a hot candidate for several open coaching positions in the league.
