A Republican in a chicken suit was arrested in New Hampshire.

With the news elsewhere so relentlessly bad — Islamic State, Russian incursion into Ukraine, Syria imploding — it’s a relief sometimes to take a break from worrying about stepped-up airstrikes and contemplate instead President Obama’s choice of a tan suit for his Thursday presser (per the Brady Briefing Room: “the audacity of taupe”).

This week on the Press Pool with Julie Mason, Niels Lesniewski of Roll Call discussed the chicken incident and his reporting trip to New Hampshire.

Speaking of Republicans, Texas Gov. Rick Perry also visited New Hampshire, apparently undaunted by his recent indictment. Todd Gillman of the Dallas Morning News caught up with the governor at several stops.

With Washington kind of dullsville and Congress back home, Peter Hamby of CNN also is finding time to travel — back to South Carolina where he started his political reporting career.

No matter where reporters and lawmakers may travel, the technology exists to track them anywhere via cellphone. Craig Timberg from the Washington Post joined the show to discuss his alarming story about this latest surveillance technique.

And in Richmond, testimony was wrapping up in the federal corruption trial of former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and his wife, Maureen McDonnell. Jim Nolan of the Richmond Times-Dispatch provided an update.
