Fern Mallis remembers Oscar de la Renta: ‘It’s the end of an era.’

The fashion world is grieving after news was released that world renowned fashion designer Oscar de la Renta passed away this past Monday at the age of 82. Fern Mallis, creator of New York Fashion Week and SiriusXM Host of Fashion Insiders, remembers the icon, and talks about how his death has shaken the fashion industry.

“It’s the end of an era, a true fashion icon, and legend. A charming, and extraordinary man has passed away,” she said.

From his Bryant Park shows during Fashion Week to notably styling many monumental women, including first lady Michelle Obama and Hilary Clinton, Mallis describes how Oscar de la Renta’s mission was always about instilling confidence in women with the clothes he made. “He did what he needed to do to make those first ladies look fabulous. He noticed the ladies, as opposed to the industry of the show.”

Oscar de la Renta passed away in his Connecticut home after battling cancer.
