Following the injury to Cleveland Browns running back Ben Tate last weekend, and the subsequent news that Tate, who has a history of injury issues, could miss up to four weeks, fantasy football owners were quick to scoop up Terrance West and Isaiah Crowell. As of Thursday, West and Crowell were the third- and sixth-most added players in Yahoo! fantasy football leagues overall, and the top two added running backs.

However, this week on his SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio show, Jeff Mans advised only those owners who play in deeper leagues to pick up Crowell.

“What it comes down to at this point: Roster makeup and roster structure,” Mans said. “Do you want more backup running backs that are really third string, backups to backups? It’s one thing when they are out for the season. Then, yeah, OK, attach the handcuff and again, you’re one hit away. But at Week 5, however much you spend on Crowell, you’re gonna have to drop him. Because what are you gonna do, carry three Browns running backs? I don’t know about that.”

Mans offered the names of two other running backs that are more worthwhile than Crowell.

“At this point, don’t you want a guy who might be a lead back?” Mans asked. “Don’t you want Lorenzo Taliaferro? Isn’t that the guy that’s you’re intrigued about? It is for me. I would much rather have a guy like that; Ahmad Bradshaw, a guy that you can use, that’s there.”
