Before Kevin Durant suffered a fractured foot this preseason, the Oklahoma City Thunder forward was as clear cut a No. 1 overall pick as there was in fantasy sports. Alas, Durant’s injury will keep him out at least six weeks, meaning his value needs a reassessment.

Earlier this week on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio, Justin Fensterman and Tony Cincotta debated whether Durant should still be taken in the first round of fantasy basketball drafts.

“I’m telling you right now, I was in a draft a few nights ago and I nearly got the opportunity to draft him eighth overall,” Fensterman said. “I have no problem taking him in the late first round. Because at that point – let’s say it’s a 12-team standard draft – I’m getting somebody good coming back in the second round. So if I have to eat a roster spot and it’s Kevin Durant, the best player in the game, the top fantasy basketball player in the game, I have no problem doing that at eighth overall.

“I thought that I would definitely take him in the second round,” Cincotta said, “but I could see people taking a shot. In the NBA, they don’t play a lot of games early in the year. It’s spread out. So you’re talking about maybe under 10 games he could possibly miss.”
