One of the positions most likely to drive fantasy baseball owners mad this season is third base. Beyond the debate over who is the No. 1 player at the position, experts differ on their opinions of mid- and late-round options. SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio’s Ray Flowers named a trio of players who are underrated by their average draft position.

Kyle Seager

Says Flowers: “I love this guy. He’s not sexy. He’s not someone who’s getting taken in the second or third round. He doesn’t have any upside. But he’s just good. And sometimes the “just good” guys … they kind of get overlooked, they don’t get appreciated for what they are because they don’t do anything outstanding. … Two of the last three years, he’s had at least 85 RBI. All three of the last three seasons he’s had at least 20 home runs. So we’re looking at a solid run producer, we’re looking at a solid home-run bat, we’re looking at a guy who’s not going to hurt you in the batting average category, and a player for the third base position who does a pretty good job stealing bases.”

Pedro Alvarez

Says Flowers: “Pedro Alvarez is 17th at the third base position right now. Is that warranted? i don’t think so. I’m a big fan of Pedro Alvarez if you understand who Pedro Alvarez is. Who is Pedro Alvarez? He’s a guy who’s a third baseman. He’s gonna qualify at first base – that dual position eligibility is really nice. … He’s one season removed from having back-to-back 30-home run, 85-RBI efforts. … The best walk rate of his career was last season, and, this might even be more significant, the best strikeout rate of his year. That’s improvement. That’s significant improvement.”

Aramis Ramirez

Say Flowers: “A boring guy, but still a very productive player. If you’re awaiting at the third base position, waiting on your corner infield, Aramis Ramizez still has enough giddy up in his game to be effective.”

Flowers and Kyle Elfrink also debated who the No. 1 overall third baseman is in fantasy baseball. Have a listen to that discussion below, and tweet your questions @SiriusXMFantasy.
