Rock & roll lost a true legend this weekend when singer-songwriter Lou Reed died at the age of 71.

Reed, a guitarist and singer for the Velvet Underground and later a solo artist, influenced artists of many different genres and backgrounds. Among those artists? Country singer and SiriusXM Outlaw Country host Elizabeth Cook.

Cook, who said of Reed’s death, “I am indebted to Lou Reed for casting his spell on the ears of a hillbilly girl singer’s soul,” paid tribute to Reed Sunday on her Facebook page.

In 2008, Cook also performed a cover of the Velvet Undeground’s Sunday Morning.

Tune in to The Loft, SiriusXM channel 30, Monday at 6 pm ET for a Lou Reed’s New York Shuffle marathon.
