David Lynch, director of Twin Peaks, Mulholland Dr., Elephant Man, Blue Velvet and other surrealist films, is not the person you’d expect to have such a strong opinion on how we can improve the American educational system, but in fact, not only does he have a solution but he says he’s seen his solution work.

Lynch, founder and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the David Lynch Foundation, an organization that promotes the benefits of Transcendental Meditation (TM), says that Vicitation Valley High School was one of the “worst schools in San Francisco,” before TM was introduced.

“You’re not going to help the students by painting the school bright colors, giving the students nice little books, giving them even more one-on-one time with the teacher – bullshit,” Lynch said. “All this torment stays inside the children… filled with torment, filled with stress. It’s a joke, surface cures will never get rid of it.

Watch to find out what happened when TM was introduced to both the students and teachers.
