Matt McGloinThe Oakland Raiders suffered a massive blow when Derek Carr suffered a broken leg against the Indianapolis Colts last Saturday.

Now, their lofty hopes of making a Super Bowl run, something they seemed poised to do with Carr running one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses, rest on the passing arm of reserve quarterback Matt McGloin.

‘He’s very competitive’

Just how confident are the Raiders in McGloin’s ability to pick up the immense slack created by Carr’s devastating injury?

“He’s been a real steady guy,” Raiders coach Jack Del Rio told Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan on Movin’ The Chains. “He’s very competitive. He’s been our backup for the last two years and knows the offense inside and out. I know he’s excited to get a chance to play and we’re excited to rally around him and continue playing good football. We’ve got a good team and we’re a team that knows how to prepare.

‘We’ll get ourselves ready’

“We’ll get ourselves ready and we’ll go in and fight.”
