A few times over the past several years anti-Muslim sentiment has reached levels that have caused me to truly worry about the safety of my family and friends who are Muslim. But I’ve never been as concerned as I am now. It’s not just the backlash from the Paris terrorist attack, but the drumbeat of anti-Muslim words we have seen from politicians and the alarming rhetoric online.

On my live show Saturday morning we will discuss the recent spike in anti-Muslim hate crimes and planned terrorist attacks against Muslim Americans over the last few weeks. As I write this, Jon Ritzheimer, the man who had organized an armed anti-Muslim rally outside of a mosque in Phoenix, Arizona a few months ago, is heading to upstate New York with his friend to confront and possibly attack American Muslims. The FBI has even issued a warning to New York police to be on alert for a Ritzheimer. I’ll be joined by Tahirah Amatul-Wadud, an attorney and member of the upstate New York Muslim community who will share what it’s like to be fearful of being attacked and even killed simply because of your religion.

Donald Trump’s jihad versus Muslims. I’ll be joined by Congressman Andre Carson (D-IN), one of the two Muslim Americans serving in our Congress, to discuss Trump calling for surveillance of Muslims and possibly special Muslim identity cards. There’s certainly a concern that Trump’s words can legitimize hate and inspire violence versus American Muslims. Plus Rep. Carson will give us details of how Syrian refugees are vetted before they allowed in the United States.

Is Islam “at odds” with American values? A new poll released last week found that a little over 50 percent of Americans (and 75% of Republicans) think Islam is “at odds” with American and Western values. Al Jazeera host Mehdi Hasan will join me to have brutally honest conversation on this issue and answer your questions.

How can Muslims counter misconceptions and fears people have about Islam? If there was ever a time that the Muslim community needs to be even more proactive in countering the idea that ISIS and other terrorists represent Islam, it’s now! I’ll be joined by journalist Anushay Hossain to discuss this issue and also take suggestions from listeners.

Hope you not only tune in to my show, but join the conversation at 877-974-7487. I want to hear what you think about these issues, plus join us for our weekly “Ask A Muslim” a question segment.
