The ‘Big Four’ of ’80s thrash metal: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax played their last concert on Sept. 14, 2011 at Yankee Stadium in New York City.

Days prior to the event, it was rumored that frontman Dave Mustaine of Megadeth, was canceling his band’s appearance due to his battle with neck injuries. Despite his condition, Mustaine performed the show. Two days prior to the band’s performance, Mustaine was on the verge of getting emergency surgery.

When asked by Sirius XM’s Eddie Trunk how he powered through the performance after being in such pain, Mustaine commented, “There were some comments that were made about me that kind of made me want to do it even more,” referring to the taunts of his neck condition by Metallica’s co-manager, Peter Mensch.

With Slayer planning their retirement after one final world tour, Trunk asked Mustaine the question on everyone’s mind: Will there be any more Big Four concerts?
