Charles Clay likes what he has been hearing from new Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott.

The veteran tight end also likes what he has been seeing and doing during offseason workouts, including how he and the rest of the Bills’ offense will function under the guidance of new coordinator Rick Dennison.

‘I’m going to continue to work hard and try to put my best foot forward’

“We’ll have some opportunities to do a lot of damage this year, and I’m definitely looking forward to it,” Clay told Zig Fracassi and Torry Holt on NFL Rewind. “So I’m going to continue to work hard and try to put my best foot forward this season and I’m definitely looking forward to it.”

Clay is especially thrilled that quarterback Tyrod Taylor is returning. He believes Taylor brings the necessary ingredients to help take the steps the tight end expects them to take.

‘There’s no question the kind of athlete (Taylor) is, about the command that he has in the huddle’

“I mean, you look at the progress he made from year one to year two, there’s no question the kind of athlete he is, about the command that he has in the huddle,” Clay said. “And I feel like he was constantly making strides in the passing game and going through reads and things like that. It was only his second year of playing, and I feel like with the kind of work that he puts in, there’s no question in my mind that he’ll be a great quarterback. I was definitely excited to see that he was coming back and I feel like we’ll do some good things here in the near future.”

New coach Sean McDermott is another reason for Clay’s enthusiasm. Clay believes the higher degree of discipline and accountability that McDermott brings is exactly what the Bills need.

‘(McDermott) has a way that he goes about his business and he’s a disciplinarian’

“He has a way that he goes about his business and he’s a disciplinarian,” Clay said. “But at the same time, he’s also a great guy. He’s a guy that you can talk to off the field. He cares about everyone’s family and things like that. I think the first time I talked to him that was the first thing he asked me about was about my family and kids’ names and things like that. So he’s really in tune with what guys have going on off the field. But at the same time, he has ways that he wants to run things and it’s been great. It’s different. Some guys, I feel, it’ll help.”
