Chiefs’ Justin Houston on Patrick Mahomes: ‘He’s still got more to show’

As incredible as Patrick Mahomes’ start to the 2018 season has been, there’s reason to believe it can be even better. At least, that’s what Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston believes after watching Mahomes lead the Chiefs to a 27-23 comeback victory against the Denver Broncos Monday night.

As incredible as Pat Mahomes’ start to the 2018 season has been, there’s reason to believe it can be even better.

At least, that’s what Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Justin Houston believes after watching Mahomes lead the Chiefs to a 27-23 comeback victory against the Denver Broncos Monday night.

‘The sky’s the limit for that guy’

The win boosted the Chiefs to 4-0, while Mahomes added to impressive statistics that show him leading the NFL with 14 touchdowns passes against zero interceptions. He ranks second in the league with a passer rating of 126.5, completing 65.2 percent of his throws for 1,200 yards.

“The sky’s the limit for that guy,” Houston told Bill Lekas on Late Hits. “That guy’s amazing, he’s special. As long as he stays humble … I think the best is yet to come. He’s still got more to show you guys. I’m excited he’s on my team, and I get to see it every day in practice.”

‘It shows where you are and it shows what you need to work on’

After mostly cruising to a 3-0 start, Houston thinks it’s good that the Chiefs encountered a “dog fight,” which he said resulted largely from the defense’s inability to handle Denver’s running game, on the way to their fourth victory.

“It’s a great challenge,” he said. “It shows where you are and it shows what you need to work on. It’s a good thing that when we played as bad as we did, we still come out of it with a victory. We’ve got to get into the lab and we’ve got some work to do.”
