Wednesday at Yankee Stadium, Ichiro Suzuki recorded his 2,722nd career Major League hit. More importantly, however, it was the 4,000th hit of his professional baseball career, one that included nearly a decade in Japan.

To commemorate the milestone hit, an opposite-field single off Toronto Blue Jays knuckleballer R.A. Dickey, Ichiro received a standing ovation from the Bronx crowd and was greeted at first base by the entire Yankees dugout.

Thursday on Evan & Phillips in the Morning on Mad Dog Radio, Evan Cohen, Steve Phillips and Mike Babchik discussed Ichiro’s place in the record books, and whether his 4,000th career professional hit should have been celebrated in the manner it was.

Listen to Evan & Phillips in the Morning weekdays at 6 am ET on Mad Dog Radio, SiriusXM channel 86.
