Update: Per President Trump:”The assailant has now died from his injuries”

Shots rang out Wednesday morning in Alexandria, Virginia at the Republican Congressional baseball practice. Multiple people were injured, including House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana. Scalise is reported to be in stable condition.

According to Alexandria Police, the suspect is in custody.

Pres. Donald Trump tweeted his thoughts and prayers directed at the congressman.

The president also released an official statement saying in part,

The Vice President and I are aware of the shooting incident in Virginia and are monitoring developments closely. We are deeply saddened by this tragedy.

Update: The FBI has taken over this investigation.

Also, Rep. Steve Scalise’s office released a statement updating the public on his condition.
