After the New York Giants traded defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last month, there was rampant speculation about what they would do with the second overall pick of the NFL Draft.

Conventional wisdom strongly suggested the Giants would select the draft’s top-rated player at Paul’s position: Bradley Chubb of North Carolina State. Chubb would be thrilled to find himself in that position, but he is trying his best not to get caught up in the pre-draft speculation.

‘I’m trying not to look that much at the Giants just because I don’t want to get my hopes up’

“Ah, man, it’s just so all over the place, I just don’t know,” he told Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt on Late Hits. “When they first traded JPP, I mean, I was like, ‘Wow! That’s a bold move.’ And I started thinking, ‘Oh, wow! They need a pass-rusher now, they did that.’ So there was a lot going through my head.

“But I’m trying not to look that much at the Giants just because I don’t want to get my hopes up for one thing to happen and when it doesn’t happen, I’ll be disappointed. So I’m just continuing to work like I’ve been working and then just trying to enjoy the whole process and not trying to think about which team I’m going to. It’ll be amazing if I ended up in New York, it’ll be amazing if I ended up anywhere else, so it’s just having fun.”

‘It just worked wonders for me’

Chubb said he is especially proud of the fact he made “an investment” in himself by remaining in college for his senior season and enhancing his draft stock.

“It just worked wonders for me,” he said. “So I’m just proud of the fact that, even though I had doubters, even though I had people just all over the place telling me that I made the wrong decision by coming back to school. Just doing that, being with my teammates the whole journey, my teammates being with me the whole journey, just seeing that finally come to light is real good.”

”It’s hard to actually sit down and get a session of training in’

What has been his greatest challenge in the pre-draft process?

“Finding time to work out during the traveling and stuff,” Chubb said. “You go on different team visits from one coast to the next and just doing a lot of flying, and it’s hard to actually sit down and get a session of training in. That’s one of the hardest parts, but guys find a way to do it. I’ve been finding a way to do it. It’s still been fun.”
