British singer Birdy broke through in 2008 at the tender age of 12 with her debut single covering Bon Iver’s Skinny Love. She continued to hone her craft with the 2011 release of her debut album, which was comprised mostly of covers. Her sophomore album, featuring all originals, saw her come into her own and led to her contributing songs for a number of film soundtracks, including The Fault In Our Stars, The Hunger Games and Brave.

With her third studio album, Beautiful Lies, she’s veered away from her more ethereal folk beginnings and landed in remix-ready, indie pop territory.

While in New York for her US tour in support of the effort, Birdy stopped by The Pulse (Ch. 15) for an in-studio performance, where she played her pulsating lead single Keeping Your Head Up as well as a cover of Justin Bieber’s hit Sorry, turning it from a warm, breezy tropical house number into a haunting, bare-bones, piano-driven ballad.

Check them out below and don’t forget to see her live on tour in a city near you.
